Thrust bearings consist of shaft washers, seat washers, rolling elements and cage assemblies. The rolling elements are cylindrical rollers or balls and can only carry axial loads.

Thrust ball bearings consist of shaft washers, bottom washers, balls and cage assemblies. These bearings are separable, ie the ball and cage assemblies and washers can be mounted separately.
