Characteristics and applications of commonly used bearing materials

metallic material

Bearing alloy, bronze, aluminum base alloy, zinc base alloy and so on are made into metal materials.Among them, bearing alloy is also known as white alloy, mainly lead, tin, antimony or other metal alloy, it can be in the heavy load, high speed, and so on, the strength is small. Its reason is because of its characteristic, wear-resisting model is good, plasticity is high, running-in performance is good, heat conduction is good and resist glue is good with good sex and the absorbency with oil is good. However, as it is more expensive, it must be poured on bronze, steel strip or cast iron bearing bush to form a thinner coating when used.(HONBbearing06)
(1)bearing alloy
Bearing alloy is an alloy of tin, lead, antimony and copper. It takes tin or lead as the matrix and contains hard grains of antimony tin (sb-sn) and copper tin (cu-sn).Hard grains play an antiwear role, while soft substrates increase the plasticity of the material. The elastic modulus and elastic limit of bearing alloy are very low. Among all bearing materials, its embeddability and frictional compliance are the best. It is easy to run in with the journal and not easy to bite and stick with the journal. But the strength of bearing alloy is very low, can not be made alone, can only be attached to the bronze, steel or cast iron bearing bush as bearing lining.Bearing alloy is suitable for heavy load, medium to high speed occasions, the price is more expensive.
(2)
 copper alloy
Copper alloy has higher strength, better anti-friction and wear resistance.Bronze performs better than brass and is the most commonly used material. There are several kinds of bronze, such as tin bronze, lead bronze and aluminum bronze. However, tin bronze has higher hardness than bearing alloy, and poor running-in and embeddability, so it is suitable for heavy load and medium speed occasions.Lead bronze has strong resistance to adhesion and is suitable for high speed and heavy load bearings.Because of its high strength and hardness and poor adhesion resistance, it is suitable for low-speed and heavy-duty bearings.
(3)
 acieral
Al - base bearing alloy has good corrosion resistance, high fatigue strength and good friction performance. These qualities have allowed aluminum-based alloys to replace the more expensive bearing alloys and bronze in some areas.Aluminum base alloy can be made into single metal parts (such as bushing, bearing, etc.), can also be made into bimetal parts, bimetal bearing bush with aluminum base alloy as bearing liner, with steel as backing.

non-metallic material

The most widely used nonmetallic materials are all kinds of plastics (polymer materials), such as phenolic resin, nylon, polytetrafluoroethylene, etc.Polymer characteristics are: with many chemical substances do not react, corrosion resistance is particularly strong; It has certain self-lubricity, can work under the condition of no lubrication, and has certain lubrication ability under the condition of high temperature;Good embeddedness;Anti - friction and wear resistance are better.
When choosing polymer as bearing material, we must pay attention to the following problems: because the heat conduction capacity of polymer is only a few percent of that of steel, therefore, the dissipation of friction heat must be considered, which strictly limits the working speed and pressure value of polymer bearing.Because the linear expansion coefficient of polymer is much larger than that of steel, therefore, the clearance between polymer bearing and steel journal should be larger than that of metal bearing. In addition, the strength and yield limits of polymer materials are low, which limits the load they can withstand during assembly and operation.Because the polymer material may creep under normal temperature, it is not suitable to make bearings with strict clearance requirements.
Carbon - graphite can be used as bearing material in adverse environment, in which the more graphite content, the softer the material, the smaller the friction coefficient.Metals, polytetrafluoroethylene or molybdenum disulphide components can be added to the carbon-graphite material. Liquid lubricants can also be impregnated.Carbon - graphite bearing has self - wetting, its self - wetting and anti - friction depends on the amount of water vapor adsorbed.Carbon-graphite has an affinity with hydrocarbon-containing lubricants, and the addition of lubricants helps improve the boundary lubrication properties. In addition, it can also be used as water - lubricated bearing material.

  •   Rubber is mainly used for water lubricant and dirty environment.
Wood has a porous structure and can be improved by fillers. The packed polymer improves the dimensional stability of the wood and reduces moisture absorption, as well as improves its strength. The bearing made of wood can work in very dusty conditions.
